2nd Anniversary of War in Ukraine

2nd Anniversary of War in Ukraine

Canterbury for Ukraine (C4U) organises events on February 24th to commemorate the second anniversary of the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation and the ensuing destructive war.

As the current conflict continues, the commemoration takes on special importance as Ukraine continues to defy Russian aggression and affirm its commitment to peace and freedom.

The events on the 24th of February will include the solemn walk starting at the Beaney Library in Canterbury at 4.30, to bring together the Ukrainian supporters and displaced Ukrainians, to remember and honour those affected by the war, to show solidarity and support for peace and unity and against illegal, deadly aggression. Additionally, to express the deepest gratitude of the displaced to the British people for their priceless and ongoing support.

The walk will be followed by a public talk “War on Ukraine: Unbreakable People” at The Friends Meeting House at 5.15 pm. The event will feature distinguished speakers, including Yevhen Hlibovytsky, a public figure, and director of Frontier Institute, a strategic think tank for Ukraine,  Baroness Alison Suttie, a Member of the House of Lords since October 2013, the Patron of Canterbury for Ukraine, and Ms. Maryna Poltavska, a beneficiary of the Home for Ukraine scheme. The discussion will be moderated by Sir Julian Brazier, a former Member of Parliament for Canterbury. The panel discussion will be followed by the Q&A and light refreshments.

During the day, the  (non-profit) Ukraine Freedom Company will collect donations of warm clothing or (non lethal) equipment for the Ukrainian Army, medical services or charitable sector in Ukraine. Anything from warm socks, to thermal underwear to boots and waterproof clothing (preferably dark green or dark coloured), sealed medical packs, compasses, binoculars, water bottles, mapcases etc, etc.
