About Our OrganiSation

Our Story

On 24 February 2022, Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine sent shockwaves across the world, including here in Canterbury. In response, local residents and Ukrainian diaspora came together to support those forced to flee their homes. Canterbury for Ukraine (C4U) started as an emergency response community group on the 11 March 2022.

From the start, we took a holistic approachC4U mission was to bridge the gap in provision of comprehensive support to displaced Ukrainians and their hosting families in Canterbury and East Kent — helping with visa applications, logistics, application for social support serviceshousing, paperwork, English language learning, socialcommunity integration, psychological support, education, and community activities and many other needs.

As the Ukrainian community grew, so did our initiatives. C4U Ladies’ Choir, Young Ukrainians Hub, Young at Heart Club, and Ukrainian Discussion Group help people connect, integrate, and develop, while Welcome Hub provides essential information and support. By 2023 Canterbury for Ukraine became a registered charity (No. 1204746).

None of this would be possible without the generosity of the Canterbury community—local businesses, schools, authorities, and volunteers who stand with us.

Our journey continues. We help Ukrainians not just find a refuge, but rebuild their lives and to stay strong in front of new challenges.
