English language courses

In April 2022, C4U in collaboration with Canterbury Christ Church University organized free English language courses for displaced Ukrainians. The programme was led by Kevin Balchin and provided 100–130 adult learners with the opportunity to improve their English skills, attending classes two to three times a week during term time. In total, we received 353 unique applications, demonstrating the programme’s strong impact and demand. Besides the language, the program helped to introduce English culture and helped to build employability skills. The program has also helped to consolidate the Ukrainian community as most of the new arrivals attended the classes. Vlada Russova was a class representative.

Workshops for Host Families

In May 2022, C4U jointly with the Association for Family Therapy launched a series of workshops for host families, providing essential psychological support and practical guidance for those welcoming displaced Ukrainians into their homes. The programme included monthly meetings as well as 2–3 specialised workshops per year, offering a space for hosts to share experiences, receive expert advice, and navigate the challenges of sponsorship. The initiative was coordinated by Anastasia Skelton and brought together 20–30 participants per session, fostering a supportive community and strengthening the integration process.
