C4U marks Ukraine Independence Day 2025 – Canterbury
The celebration began in the city centre, by the Beany House of Arts and Knowledge, with warm words of solidarity from Sheriff Steph Jupe and opening remarks from Interim Chair of Canterbury for Ukraine, Annette King, setting the tone for the day and reminding everyone of the strength of unity.
During the walk of solidarity through Canterbury’s city centre, the Ukrainian community sang well-known Ukrainian songs, while passersby smiled at them and politely gave way. Blue and yellow flags were waved proudly, symbolising mutual respect and shared values.

The walk concluded at the spot where a viburnum tree had been planted earlier, as a sign of gratitude from the Ukrainian community to the Canterbury community for their hospitality towards Ukrainians displaced by the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. Here, the Ukrainian community sang the national anthem.

As part of the cultural celebration, children and families took part in a vybiyka workshop, part of the international project ‘Symbols of Identity’, exploring Ukrainian artistic traditions. The youngest guests listened to stories as part of the C4U Tale Circle project. The day continued with warm conversations and delicious treats.

We sincerely thank everyone who joined us, particularly Sheriff Steph Jupe, Cllr Marian Nestorov and Cllr Liubov Nestorova, Сllr Connie Nolan, Cllr Alister Brady, Michelle Simmonds, and Charlotte Baynes — your presence and support mean so much.
Glory to Ukraine! Glory to Canterbury!
