3d Anniversary of War in Ukraine
Canterbury for Ukraine (C4U) brought together the British and Ukrainian communities to mark three years since Russia launched its full-scale war against Ukraine. The events, held under the powerful message “Justice for Ukraine – Justice for the World,” served as a poignant reminder that Ukraine’s fight is a fight for justice worldwide.
The day began with a Solidarity Walk through Canterbury’s city centre, where Ukrainians and Britons walked side by side, carrying flags and banners in support of Ukraine. The event opened with a moment of silence, honouring the memory of all those who have lost their lives in the war. Air Marshal Chris Nickols CB CBE DL, representing the Lord-Lieutenant of Kent, and The Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Councillor Jean Butcher, delivered messages of support. The Ukrainian community sang their national anthem, hands over hearts, reaffirming their resilience.
At St Thomas Church Hall, a Public Talk explored the broader impact of Russian aggression and the urgent need for global justice. Speakers included: Lt Col Scott D’Rozario, Senior Officer, Operation INTERFLEX, Oleksiy Izhak, leading Ukrainian security expert (online), Brigadier Peter Gilbert QVRM TD DL VR, former director of Army Medical Services. Moderated by Anne Dekker, former Lord Mayor of Canterbury and Patroness of C4U, the discussion covered not only the situation in Ukraine but also the global consequences of Russian aggression and the role of the international community in restoring justice.
The event was not just about words. Volunteers operated an information stand on the High Street, raising awareness about the ongoing war. The C4U Ladies’ Choir, composed of displaced Ukrainian women, delivered a moving performance. After the discussion, guests were offered refreshments, prepared by our dedicated volunteers.
“This war is not merely Ukraine’s fight for justice. It is a fight for Justice and the World. Supporting Ukraine today is an investment in global security and justice for the future”, – says Denys Nizalov, Chair of Canterbury for Ukraine
We sincerely thank everyone who took part – online and in person: British officials, the Ukrainian community, volunteers, local residents, and members of the media, whose presence and coverage ensure that Ukraine’s voice is heard.
And finally, we remind everyone: Ukraine’s fight is a fight for justice worldwide.
